Wheel Size Determination

Hey all,

Was wondering if you could help me out w/ something for my friend. He has a 2003 2.5L Legacy Sedan. He wants to get 17" rims w/ tires. During his research, the sites tell him that the proper wheel should be 17" 7.5" w/ offset of 40. He did some more research and asked around...and someone told him to get an offset of 50-55. He took that info to find a rim for his car but couldn't find one for his car under that offset.

So, what should he do? Try and find a wheel that has an offset of 50+ or go w/ what most of the sites are saying at about 40 offset. I will recommend a 225/45/27 tire instead of the stock 205 set. Let me know what you think about the offset issue. If he could do a 17x 7x / 17x 7.5x wheel w/ offset of 40 and 225/45/17 tires...would that be a good setup??? Thanks so much.

17x7.5 for a balance between dry/wet/snow depending on the tire (narrower=better in snow/wet, wider=better in dry). As for tire size, 225/45/17 should do just fine. The narrowest tire you might consider on a 7.5" wide wheel would be 215. Offset, not too sure sinc I have a WRX. Hope this helped a bit.
