Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

you can run a 34 with the oem top mount just fine. will you get the same performance as you would with an uprated tmic? no. but for a turbo that size you won't see a hell of a lot of difference.

you can use the turboxs tmic and it'll work fine, you can even use the stock i/c and it'll work fine, but not as well as if you had a bigger i/c of course

Why do you say that? The OEM top mount is a lot better than the internet gives it credit for. On a turbo the size of a VF34 (which isn't very big- I wouldn't call any turbo that requires a boost taper before redline "big") changing the topmount won't give you huge power gains. 10-15 hp max, and that's peak, not across the board. While 10-15 hp is not insignificant, I wouldn't spend $1000 to get it.

Really? I always saw a larger TMIC as for safety not really expected for a whole lotta horse power. So do you think that you could run 17 psi all day w/ 34 and stock TMIC on 88 degree day like here in hawaii? I think it gets to be about 92 degrees at our track during track days and i could see my self running that much boost w/ the stock TMIC safely. What do you think

If that's an EJ20, you could peak at 18 as long as you have sufficient fuel and spark control and haven't defeated the knock sensor.

SCC did an interesting review comparing the OEM TMIC with a larger aftermarket TMIC. while the OEM heats up faster, it also cools down faster. the aftermarket didn't heat up as fast, but it remained hot once it got there.

The problem with large aftermarket intercoolers is that once they become heat soaked, they stay heat soaked for a very long time and intake temperatures suffer. The observations made by Dave Coleman in the APS top mount vs. stock top mount artice in SportCompactCar apply to nearly every large-core, bar-and-plate IC there is.
