Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

does intercooler size depend on turbo size???

You can also add sprayer kits to stock ICs. It doesn't change the fact that a hot large IC takes longer to cool than a hot OEM IC.

Read the SCC article for that info. Stock pressure drop is minimal.

If you're gnna buy an intercooler dont get a top mount, get a front mount intercooler. A vf34 will be fine with a stock top mount though, a vf 34 is a pretty small turbo so you have nothing to worry about.

What's wrong with his statement? I know of one tuner who trapped at 118 with his stock top mount. With an STI tmic, flow only increased 6% across the revband. I wouldn't pay all the money for the STI name and just an increase of 6%. Even something like the APS was documented as performing only as good as stock, if not worse.

exactly, that's why if you must buy an intercooler make sure it's a front mount.

if somebody hit me on the front of the car going 30 mph, I would have to hassel them about my turbo too. It's no different than anyother part of my car.

I think there is something totally wrong w/ his statement. But this is just what i think. So a guy traped 118 in the 1/4 mile, i'm pretty sure someone w/ an upgraded turbo would like to have that power all the time even while its hot safely. If i wanted to run 18psi all day everyday w/ the stock TMIC i just don't think i could do it safely especially in the conditions that i put my car in. Maybe his car is just a daily driver and thats that. Hmmm so what ever i guess it all comes down to what you do w/ your car. Hopefully when someone does a search on this topic they will get an educated answer from it.

for the record, you are disagreeing with:
you can run a 34 with the oem top mount just fine. will you get the same performance as you would with an uprated tmic? no. but for a turbo that size you won't see a hell of a lot of difference.
i don't see exactly what kind of evidence you have to support your refutation of my statement (even go so far as to say it's "totally wrong"), but whatever.

I save all my reciepts and invoices of things I buy for my car. I have a special "WRX folder" in my file cabinet. I have proof of everything I bought for the car.

Isn't the gain of a fmic over a tmic common knowledge?
