Unless you have ..
a spray kit like me
I've driven this car hard albeit on a cooler day here in Oregon and the IC is cool to the touch...If its 95 degrees I won't push it as hard and I'll spray it...adding alittle alcky to the water cools it even more

OK..I'm no expert..
But..I do know the guys at PDXTuning, Jeff Sponagle , Jeff Perrin Tim Bailey. They know thier stuff. They say when using a larger turbo you can tune for more boost with a larger IC..they are all running either larger TMIC or FMIC. Usually when experimenting more than 1 test is taken maybe it was his APS TMIC that had a problem??? Who knows...Like I said..I can run my car hard. It's a stage 4...280 WHP and the IC stays cool to the touch..Maybe I'm just lucky ???

Negatives of a FMIC
Fender bender ? little ol lady backs up into you while parallel parking ..Cha..ching..not only does it cost more..your waiting forever for the relacement parts and hasseling with the insurance company. Don't get me wrong..If you've got a big turbo...they are the way to go..but thats something to consider.

What's wrong with his statement? I know of one tuner who trapped at 118 with his stock top mount. With an STI tmic, flow only increased 6% across the revband. I wouldn't pay all the money for the STI name and just an increase of 6%. Even something like the APS was documented as performing only as good as stock, if not worse.

you can run a 34 with the oem top mount just fine. will you get the same performance as you would with an uprated tmic? no. but for a turbo that size you won't see a hell of a lot of difference.

ilivas..
When you buy your after market parts, do you inform your insurance company ? If you replace your turbo with another turbo..and the difference is $500 dollars replacement, they "may" say OK we'll replace the turbo for the stock turbo dollar amount..However..If you get into a fender bender which is much more common that traffic accidents. Any you tell them OH I replaced my TMIC with a $1500 front mount..You "MAY" be S.O.L. And you would need to get into a pretty nasty accident to destroyas far back into the engine bay as the turbo..
My car was dyno tuned with a larger TMIC and I have the whp gains to prove that they can safely give you 10-20 hp..I can't speak for the heat soak issue because its still winter and the I.C. just isn't getting hot..I seriously doubt though, that TXS, MRT, AVO and Perrin would produce these products without having hard evidence to back up thier safe power gains.
Some of these researches being done are like Polls..you can make them say what you want..I would rather trust someone I know..listen to them..and watch them tune my car on the dyno..Thats proof to me. Not some guy with a APS tmic that says something and posts here.

I save all my reciepts and invoices of things I buy for my car. I have a special "WRX folder" in my file cabinet. I have proof of everything I bought for the car.
Isn't the gain of a fmic over a tmic common knowledge?
