Urgent Help tirerack
Hey whats up. I have a major problem on my hand tirerack and i need you guys expert advice really quick. I have a 02 wrx and i got a flat tire about a week ago and my car is just sitting in the garage with the donut on it. Ok so heres my dilemma i have 21K miles on my stock tires and like i said before just one got flat so im debating what i should do. SHould i just get 1 stock tire and wait about another 10,000 miles or should i get all 4 new tires now , i know its easy to say just get all 4 new ones but i dont wanna get them if i dont have to. Ok and heres the other problem if i do end up getting all 4 new tires would i get alot more performance out of my tires if i get 17" rims or is it the same as if i put really good tires on the stock rims. Ok and one last ? i went to a local tire shop today and asked what tires i should get and they told me that there isnt much different between the Potenza S03's and the Potenza Re950's and that its basically just the tread design difference. Ok so i wanted to know what you guys had to say about the 2 tires. I also wanted to know what you guys recommend for tires if i got 4 new tires on my stock rims or 4 new tires on lets say the SSR competitions in 17"s. Thanks for all your time in advance.

they said the 950s and the s03s are practically the same? that is stupid
the re950 is an all season tire with a treadwear of 400
the s03 is a summer tire with a treadwear of 220
that right there is a huge difference, the s03s are a lot sticker.

desi - you could measure the tread depth and I could shave ($25)an original RE92 ($78) to that depth and send it out. But considering most people are getting about 30k miles out of the RE92 as well as the dramatic improvements found by choosing a different tire, I'd go for the set of four.
There is indeed a huge difference between the S-03 and the RE950. Go with the 950 if you like the smoothness of your current tires and want a measurable improvement in everything else. Go with the S-03 if you want a drastic improvement in handling and traction with about a 20k mile treadlife.
