Tirerack: Need Help With OEM Tire Replacement
Dexter:
I have an '03 WRX wagon and am looking to upgrade my tires while keeping my stock wheels (16x6.5?).
Will 225x50x16's generally work ok on the wagon given it doesn't have the fender flares like the sedan? I know different tire makes of the same size differ in actual tire width. If that size generally doesn't work, what would be a plus size tire I could use?
(Anyone else - please provide your experience with 225's on a stock wheel for a wagon as well. Much appreciated. )
If 225's will work, can you provide me the weights of the following tires (all in 225x50x16) to help me make my decision?
>Michelin Pilot Sport A/S
>Micheline Pilot Sport
>Bridgestone Potenza RE750
>Bridgestone S-02
>Yokohama ES100
>Pirelli Pzero Nero
>Pirelli Pzero Nero M+S
>Yokohama AVS ES100
Sorry to put you through all of this. I couldn't find the weights of tires on any of the manufacturers' sites.
Thanks in advance for your help. I'll be making my decision and ordering soon after your reply!!

I say go 225 width. Here are the weights:
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 24 lbs.
Micheline Pilot Sport 22.8
Bridgestone Potenza RE750 25
Bridgestone S-03 26
Yokohama ES100 23.5
Pirelli Pzero Nero 23.8
Pirelli Pzero Nero M+S Not made in this size
That's quite a mix of tires. You've got to decide summer vs. all season. If you drive in any snow at all, you'll need an all season tire, otherwise you'll bet your most traction in the wet and dry out of a summer tire.

Thanks for the quick response, Dexter! Yeah, I live in Florida so a summer tire will suit me year round. Considering price, performance, and weight, I think I'm gonna order the Neros. Also will be ordering some Turanza LH-S's for the wife's Accord.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
