Question Flat tire replacement / tire shaving shops

I have a nail in one of my tires (Hankook RS2). Brought it to America's Tire, and they said it was too close to the sidewall to patch.

Can I get away with replacing just the one tire? My other tires are at around 6/32 - 7/32 tread left, used for less than 10k miles. According to Hankook, the RS2 has 8.5/32 of tread new. Is that close enough?

If not, is there a shop in the East/South Bay that shaves tires? I've read about tire shaving being an alternative to buying a new set of 4 tires. However, where can I get it done around here? Searching the Bay Area forum brings up a thread from 2003, and even then, no shop was listed.

I'd like to still keep using the other 3 since there's plenty of tread left. Any advice appreciated.

There is a shop inside Infineon Raceway that will shave it down to match your current tread depth. Just bring them in a nwe tire and the depth of your other three tires.

Ouch, Sonoma is a little far for me. Thanks for the link though.

Any tire shavers in the East or South Bay?

I believe that roger krause does shave tires, as well as custom alignment in mountain view, and I believe there some place in redwood city that does it as wellbut I can't think of the name off the top of my head

Great. Roger Kraus would work for me.

Now, is shaving necessary to go from 8.5/32 to 7/32?

By the book, yes, shaving is necessary....

and although I seriously doubt that little difference would result in any significant problems, $30 for a shaving is cheaper than a differential
