Luke,

I have 17x8 TE37s with a 46mm offset on an '02 WRX. I've run Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's and Yok ES100's on these wheels. Both were 235/45. I just got my new 235/45 Ectsa MX's, haven't put them on yet They look way too wide. Realtive to what I have on now, the MXs look like 255s! I have maybe 5mm between my sidewall and Tein Basic strut. Basically with the 712's and the ES100 quite new they would rub a bit, but not terribly and only when cornering medium hard or more. I'm afriad the MX's wont even get along with the strut.

What's the best way to go this? Have a shop try to mount one and see how it goes? If its a no go, can I return all 4? Should I just return them now?

thanks,

jason

Thanx for the info. That 3/8" wider is overall? Meaning that each side extends 3/16"?

I spoke with Gary (or was it Greg?) at TireRack. He, on the other hand said that a 235/54 is a 235/45 no matter the model of tire. This, I found hard to believe. At the least, all manufacturers have their own differences in measuring tires... you've shown a case of difference between models of a given manufacturer. I should have asked you before I ordered.

Well, at any rate, the shop is attempting to put the tires on right now. We'll see. Either way, its gonna be tight. Probably time to finally roll those fenders and raise the car another centimeter

You're no dummy. The diameter will always be very very close in a given size, but the physical width can vary quite a bit. I've seen 235/40/17 AVS100s stacked up against 205/55/16 Hoosiers... guess which stack was taller? With a bit less camber (hope you have some to spare) you'll be okay.

They fit... *barely*. Luke was right on the money. Fortunately its the rear wheels with the space issue, so I'm not dealing with turning and changing distances between the wheel and strut.

Unfotunately one wheel was too damaged to mount a new tire (had a little mishap in Friday's rain). So, new tires and the car's outta commission for now :-/
