I own a set of 5Zigen's (GN+)...And I'd say cosmetically, the 5Zigens have less than great paint. The wheels look awesome, but if you have to drive in sandy conditions, they get rock chips very easy. This is common on many 5Z wheels I've seen.

Thanks for this input b/c 5Zingen just came out with a glossy finish w/ chrome lip, and i thought it would look real good on my white i but if the paint is going to chip, then im over it

SSR Comp's are forged, 5Zigen FN01RC's are cast if I recall correctly. That means that the SSR's are more durable than the 5Zigens, and maybe slightly lighter. The FN01RC's are "lightweight cast" wheels that are economical and lightweight, but probably not as tough.

I wouldn't call the SSRs "more durable" than most cast wheels. They are equally strong while weighing far less. That's what makes them worth the cost, they are typically among the very lightest wheels in a given size. 17x7.5s in WRX fitment weigh only ~12.4 pounds.

Yeah, maybe durable wasn't the best word.

Proportionally stronger I guess would be a better way to put it.

I have the silver paint on the SSR Comps and no problems, still look like new. Only had them for 7 months though, and keep them clean and protected.

SSR Comps= best performance bang for the buck in alloy wheels/very light semi solid forged wheels-strong enough for me and I drive some nasty pavement on weekends/great looking/fantastic handling. SSR Comps allow you to go to a taller/wider wheel than stock while reducing unsprung weight.

SSR (Speed Star Racing) is bankrupt, but it's unlikely that they are down for the count. The company is currently in "restructuring." They are the only company that holds the license to make wheels with the semi-solid forging process. That's hot property. They may just be "over extended." There is still a sizable stock of SSR wheels available with distributors. I noticed that their Japanese web site is still up and running, but unfortunately, I don't know the language. Too early to say for sure how this thing will shake out. Kmart went bankrupt a few years ago and look where they are today. Don't know how Japan's corporate laws work, though.
