do I need a new spare when I upgrade?
Just brought home my '04 silver WRX, traded in a '01 Cobra. Got tired of pushing that thing around. I love this WRX. I'm going to order 17", OZ SL's with Michlen Pilots from Tire Rack. Do I need to upgrade my spare? Can I do damage if I drive with the 16" stock spare?
Tumble,
You'll be fine with the OE donut. Subaru knows that there will be a slightly different diameter when running the spare, and it can be used with no problem to "limp" to a service station for repair.

Dexter,
So upgrading to 17" rims will increase the overall diameter of the rim and tire? I thought that stayed the same...
also, this might be a stupid question, but what do u do when you have a flat? Get to a gas station asap, or get to a tire store (like Sears)?
Thanks

The OD of your 17s won't be 'exactly' the same as your 16s and neither will be 'excatly' the same as your spare. We're talking millimeters here - so the difference is neglegible. Your three differentials are highly capable of compensating for the small differences in tire diameter;
When you get a flat, put on the spare and get to any store that services tires to see if it can be safely patched. You could get a new tire there or you could drive with the patched tire.
