can I use 17x8 wheels with 235 wheels? (Dexter help?)
Hi all,
I have an 03 WRX sedan with STi pink springs and KYB AGX struts. Lowered 4/5 inch (almost 1inch) over stock. The spring (boing) are much stiffer 200lb/in front and 185lb.in rear. I also have a Whiteline ALK installed. I want to use 17x8 wheels with 48 offset combined with 235 tires. Is there going to be any rubbing issues with my fender well? Dex ... maybe you can shed some light on this. I really don't want to roll my fenders ..... I know by sticking to 17x7.5 with 48 offset and 225 wheels there are no rubbing issues but if I can do 17x8 and 235 tires, that is where I want to be .....
Thanks for looking all....
someone who has a similar setup please comment .....

17X8"
there is a thread over on the other suby site here. That thread talks all about the new rota torque, a 17X8" wheel and tire fitment. On page three of the thread it looks like for street use the 245/40/17 is fine but it rubs under hardcore track use.
So your choice of 235/45/17 for 17/8" looks like you should be fine.

TIRE UPDATE: on the track... the 245/40 setup did rub... so i had to roll the fenders on the track... i will eventually get the trusty dremmel out and do some fender modification... i'll have videos of that too!

Awesome .... infact I do want to use the new Rota Torques and the widest tires possible. 235 would be awesome and 245 even better but if I don't have to roll my fenders with 235s thats the way I'll probably go .....
Thanks for your input guys ....

The only problem you would encounter with the 235's would be the diameter and circumferance would be the wrong size causing an inaccurate speedo and odometer. 235 40 17 are too small and 235 45 17 are too big. For a more correct aspect ratio go with either 225 45 17 or 245 40 17.
Check this site out for tire size calculations and how far off the speedo and odo will be.

Yikes - it'll be close. Maybe I'm too conservative but I'd be careful with that - I'd look at the section widths of each tire and see if the tire you're looking at "runs wide." As usual, be ready to roll. Please follow up with results - I hope it works because a 235 on an 8" wheel would look awesome.
Yeah but 235/40 is short. Anyone tried the 45s? I always prefer taller vs. shorter because of look/mileage etc. Remember - I've already got 75k miles on my '02 wagon - I'd have about 71 with taller tires...
