Question

Would 235-45-17 on the stock 05 STi BBS? I think it will be the closes to the stock size.

They'll fit but they'll be a little wider and a little higher profile.

The 245/40/17's are closer to to the stock diameter.

The reason I would like to go with 45's is mainly for the pot holes in the area, or do you guys think between 35's, 40's and 45's doesn't really matter?

Its actually a ratio of the width of the tire. 295/35's have a higher profile than 225/45's.

Think of it like this, the width is 245mm and the profile is 40 (245/40). The sidewall height should be 40% of the 245mm width.

im in the bay area too and potholes in say santa rosa to petaluma suck. i ran 245-40-17's with no problem. i am dropped pretty far on zero2r's and only rubbed occasionally on hard cornering im getting 18s soon and plan to run pzero neros on them in 235-40-18, i want a little more diameter to help lower my rpms on the freeway. then ill end up with a 255-40-17 on a 17x8.5 for a summer/track setup. generally for every 20mm you go up on the section width you should drop 5% off the aspect ratio so if you go from a 225-45 and want to go to a 245 then you would go to a 245-40 and so on. tires vary too so this is not always true.

i wouldnt do 245's on the 04 sti wheel because it is only 7.5" wide and it may cause the tire to bulge .... but then again every tire is different so it doesnt go that way for every tire.
