Wanting to do open source still very confused

Still confused on what i do.
So basically i buy the tactix cable 79.99 on tactix.com
then i down load some map, some where, connect my computer to the green cable using the tactix cable and press run? somebody help me

Should i just get the accessport, its so much more expensive though.

Who made the map you want to run?
What happens if there's an error with the map?
And yes, I make money tuning cars, so I'm biased.
