If this story is even true i'm not sure it really matters that Ak-47s got into the hands of people that most likely already had them or easy access to them.

hmmmm, cross-linked articles? I'm wondering if it's even true, didn't mention anything about the associated press...

we funded Iraq back in the 70s and 80s. we also funded Afghanistan back during the cold war. We are now fighting the same people we gave money and arms to back then so basically your tax dollars have done a complete 180 and you are paying for a war that is being fought with weapons that were purchased using US dollars to begin with.

and pretty much 80% of the Iraqis already have at least 2 AK's. The thing that worries me is the body armor because they can use that to test the weaknesses and continue making the EFP IED's which consist of extremely hot copper. Extremely hot copper will go through an uparmored Humvee like a hot knife through warm butter.

Yeah, the weaknesses of the body armor are a bigger IED and/or shoot the exposed portions of the person.

Like I said, it's not that big of a deal really... If it were RPG7s then i'd much more upset.

Look at Iran and them buying-up planes. I say let them buy as many planes as they can! We have tons of pilots itching to give their F22's some combat time. Now, if Iran had purchased thousands upon thousands of RPGs and SAMs, then THAT would be something to concern ourselves over considering such technology still remains effective against state-of-the-art platforms and defenses.
