US to give weapons to Afghan freedom fighters against the Soviet Union

Look what that got us.

Is this story true? http://www.theage.com.au/news/world/...414216722.html

Giving weapons to the Sunni on a promise. Wowzers. This cannot have good long term effects imho.

And why are we arming them anyways? The Sunnis have caches upon caches of weapons at their disposal. Always have. And what makes this situation any different than it was prior to linking-up with us?

Discuss.

Another brilliant move sure to prolong the quagmire, as well as winning the hearts and minds of the shiite majority.

Hell yeah, I mean we've only lost about 3500 troops so far, think how that number could go up if the people we are fighting had better weapons!

sometime I really have to wonder what some of you people are thinking.....

haha yeah... when the Democrats say "congrats, they're in the bloodiest civil war imaginable" when we leave. We can say, "yeah, we gave them the weapons" even though they already had ***--loads. Good strategererey.

Yeah, I DIDN'T title this thread with a past event that backfired.

Last night Frontline on PBS had a pretty in-depth look behind the policy scenes in the first year of the war, and even coming from the mouths of the guys who believed they were doing the right thing, it was pretty amazing to hear just how bad their decisions were and how nobody was really in charge.

This administration and their loyal but misguided sycophants couldn't manage to do one thing right it seemed.

I really cannot imagine how we're ever going to get out of that mess, and how tragic it is that a few idiotic decisions made early on set the course for the disastrous conditions over there to this day.

And yet there are still cheerleaders pushing us to repeat the same mistakes to the east in Iran...

#3...I think, that you & I agree.

I see two options:

1. Escalate...a lot...& dominate.
2. Pull out now.
