Except he cost us more in appeals and all that than he would have in food and housing for the rest of his life. But whatever, logic and the death penalty have never had an eye to eye discussion.

That's one option...immediate termination following trial for capital offences. But considering how many people living on death row have ended up being exhonerated before they were executed, I'd say the most logical and best option for everyone involved is to give capital crimes life w/o parole, one appeal every 10 years no exceptions for anyone. After 3 failed appeals, no more ever. Simple as that...saves money, still keeps the real freaks off the street so they can't do more crime, and life imprisonment is a hell of a punishment (worse, in my mind, than dying quickly and painlessly).
Like I've said before the ONLY thing the death penalty offers is vengance/revenge. If you claim any other reason for why it's still around, you're just plain wrong or mislead.

I agree completely
i have no regrets about what happened to him, only regret i have are not for him, but for the people he murdered, influence to murder by being the leader of a notorious gang(so he is not just responsible for the 4 he did himself), the people who supported him, and are so blinded by his works, books etc, these people who protest against the U.S. government, and takes everything out of perspective...lastly to be honest with you all, if i murdered someone, i will accept all punishment, even death, that's just the way life is supposed to be, ----fair.
I say California should've saved the money used towards Tookie's trial and all the other consequent stuff (like paying extra CHP to watch San Quentin) by executing him sooner.
Take that money and invest it in after school or parental guidance programs.
Tookie's books are not as powerful as a parent's influence on their child.
Parents, teachers and caregivers keep kids out of gangs...not some book.

Just out of curiosity...do you think that if you beat the s*** out of someone that the state should beat the s*** out of you? Or are you ok with the fact that if you beat the s*** out of someone you get sent to jail.

As much as I hate appeals I know we need them, especially if I ever get into hot water for whatever reason.

But I think the appeal process should disappear with staggering evidence. Basically, you get an initial appeal even if the evidence is irrefutable. Then if everything stacks-up against you to a certain degree you simply aren’t not allowed anymore and carry-out your sentence for life or until SPEEDY execution (within the month unless executions have been banned). You’re not allowed to waste anymore money for your ****-up. If your appeal turned out to be 60/40 against you (you get the idea) then you'll be allowed another in 10yrs.
Something like that...
