Shadowy Govt?

http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cg...NGG58F4V21.DTL

"Washington -- The federal government under President Bush is classifying more information as secret, spending more to do it and falling further behind in dealing with the public's requests for information, a coalition of groups trying to combat secrecy in government reported Thursday.

"Secrecy has increased dramatically in recent years under the policies of the current administration,'' the 30-organization coalition called Openthegovernment.org said."

I am too dumb and liberal to understand why we need to spend $6 billion on keeping things in the dark when we have kids being educated in dilapidated schools with underpaid teachers

"And for every $120 the government spent maintaining its system of secrecy, it spent only $1 on declassification."

I agree completely. There are disgusting misallocations of resources occurring at present. It just doesn't make sense that things like education and health care are the first to be cut. Haven't these politicians ever played SimCity?

Are we talking about the $1000 toilet seat price paid by the government, or are you taking issue with national secrets?

Although I agree on declassifying what's in our drinking water and things of that nature, I can't possibly fathom why we'd de-classify information critical to national security like that site suggests.

Some things we need to know in order to be completely informed but when it comes to petty 9/11 information that’s already been covered in the commission report and other tidbits of information that doesn’t affect everyone’s daily life I say “no”.

I agree Salty... but $6 billion to keep everything secret is preposterous. When we demand higher accountablity from Dems for their "Socialist" spending, we need to look at the Republicans with equal discernment

You're absolutely correct... Maybe we should hire Sandy Berger to keep sensitive information in his underwear and socks.

it really shouldn't cost that much, if it was a private company they'd be able to do it for half as much

and what is worse is spending 6 billion on classifying information only to have two high level individuals violate protocol on handling of such information. One even gave said information to one of our allies evidently.

Not to mention if his sympathies were with the people he was sharing hte information with god only knows what sort of influence he had on american policies....
