Was Sen. Dick Durbin over the line?

Sen. Durbin's response to the conditions of Gitmo have been a heated discussion in politics recently.

On one occasion, the air conditioning had been turned down so far and the temperature was so cold in the room, that the barefooted detainee was shaking with cold. ..... On another occasion, the [air conditioner] had been turned off, making the temperature in the unventilated room well over 100 degrees. The detainee was almost unconscious on the floor, with a pile of hair next to him. He had apparently been literally pulling his hair out throughout the night. On another occasion, not only was the temperature unbearably hot, but extremely loud rap music was being played in the room, and had been since the day before, with the detainee chained hand and foot in the fetal position on the tile floor.

If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by *****, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime--Pol Pot or others--that had no concern for human beings. Sadly, that is not the case. This was the action of Americans in the treatment of their prisoners."

Your opinion on his quote, your definition of torture, and how you fell the detainees have been treated will make for a good discussion.

What? and not a single head got lopped off? Nobody was shot in the knee caps or had long needle like spikes slowly inserted into their bellies? Fingernails wern't ripped out with pliers? Nobody had a nail hammered through their *******? I don't know about you but the above statement sounded a bit tame. So the detainees were made a little uncomfortable. If it means getting information that could lead to the prevention of another 3000 death 9/11 terrorist strike, so be it.

People forget too easily. I know there are a lot of people in America. Just because a person has no relatives in N.Y. that got killed, they still should put themselves in the shoes of the victims families. Think of all the mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters that were slaughtered that day. Bush won the last election because there were thousands of family members that wanted justice and piece of mind that it wouldn't happen again. The Bush administration realized that it was time to harden up. Take action instead of just pretending to react.

The one guy that was described as pulling his own hair out, is probably the same guy that would slit an innocent mothers throat in the name of whatever...

I wonder how many people laughed inside when they heard this? I'd be willing to bet that democrat senators will motion to add rap music to the list of GW's heinous crimes against humanity.

I laughed outside. The thing is, if it was good then it doesn't matter. But it could have been the Baja Men or something...that is a crime against humanity hahaha
