Not only is that response unoriginal, it's not an answer to the charge to come up with some specific technology and cost scheme.

Not so silly when they're on the faculty. Appeal to authority is entirely appropriate, when the authority is in a position to know. If you couldn't cite experts, there'd never be a debate about any fact.
