how lame.
i guess its kinda a rant.. but i used to be the most patriotic person i knew.. America this, America that... America...**** ya..
**** like that..
now the more and more i look at things, i realize how badly i want out of this country.. ya its really good here compared to a lot of places.. but its still really good in other countries where it would be some place new..
my main fed-up with the electoral college.. why do we not vote based on total popular vote count?
and why is it that 24 states do not legally have to hold the electors bound to voting for the states popular vote.. each elector can technically vote for whoever they want despite what the state votes for..
how is that not completely bull****.. sure cali isn't affecting by that but 24 states are.. and seriously who the hell decided that the electoral college was better for the people than just adding up total vote counts..
if i and 35% of california vote for george bush but 65% vote for kerry..that causes kerry to win california so all of a sudden our vote was technically converted into a kerry vote.. which is BS..
anyways im done.

The electoral college was put in place because the founders thought it would support their federalist plan to let the states have a strong say in government.
It also was started to help the balance of power. The father's feared that if a president was directly elected, a leader might issue popular public mandates and become a tyrant (Ceasar).
It also strengthens the two-party system, which can be a good or bad thing. Honestly, with the amount of immigrants in this country, and the decline of American voters, I would not be suprised if some wacko third-party could win or come close in a popular vote, and I'm glad third parties are kept out.

but whats the difference.. if the state's voters out power the minorities/immigrants in votes then what is the difference if we use the electoral college except for the fact that electors will be voting.. and the fact that the electors for 24 states don't have to vote for what the majority of the state voted fair.. to me thats completely corrupt and a way of controlling who is in office.
states with electors not legally bound to voting for what the people want:
ARIZONA - 8 Electoral Votes
