White Line Steering Bushings
White Line Steering Bushings
So after getting a little slap happy with online consumerism, I collected all my packages of goodness and pulled out the jacks. I installed Goodridge SS brake lines, Axxis Ultimate a on all for corners and top it off with ATE super blue. I also used the Speed Bleeders. The install was super easy considering I had never done it before. Have to admit that my dad whose quite experienced with the wrenches helped me.
But let me tell you wasn't easy. Those freaking bushings. Before I installed mine I read every posting I could find on the install. After doing it myself I would like to add that this could be a really easy and sub-hour project if you realize going into it that the STEERING RACK must be dropped. Like all the other posting said, the passenger side bushing is easy. What makes the driver side difficult is not the powering steering lines but the fact that the bushing is square, has minimal room between the rack and cross member and last but most imporantly is the bushing has two rubber nubs. The undeside one you cut off before even staring but it's the nub on the top side which prevents it from sliding out. Loosening the 12mm bolt on the spline that comes from the firewall to the knuckle will give you that vital extra inch to shimmy the bushing out. This will make life so much easier you'll laugh out loud.
If you're like me and you start wondering why in the hell am I casuing myself so much grief over two stupid bushing? Let me tell you, if you drive your WRX anywhere near 7/10ths of higher, you will immediately now that is worth the grief. The turn sharpens up to the point where you started looking medium 2nd gear corners to power through. I will add that unless you've already sorted your handling i.e springs, sway bars, end links etc., you may not fell a difference. The bushings are a fine tuning upgrade.
