I've got Subaru 4pot front calipers and the "H4" rear rotors on my '02 WRX wagon. The brake feel is MUCH better than stock. The ABS also seems to work better, less likely to activate in normal driving. I have much more confidence in my brakes now.

Put decent tires on and you'll be surprised at how much your braking improves. I would try the Stoptech Stage 2 kit before going to big brakes. There's a marked improvement. Just make sure you get true track pads before any track days.

Maybe my standards are a bit high, but I don't think anything with an M&S rating is "decent."

You'd be surprised. Granted they aren't S-03's or anything like that. That having been said, if you live in an area where you see snow, but don't want to run a dedicated snow setup, Nero's are a good choice, actually I run all seasons in the summer and snows in the winter, but that's because I can't find summer tires in my size. But my all seasons are Falken ZE-512's which were noticeably better than the standard michelin all seasons that were on the car when I bought it.

whats a stoptech stage 2 upgrade?..never heard of it

I have the stoptech BBK and oem replacement stoptech rotors on the rear and it stops on a dime. The stock brake proportioning is right on. Highly reccomended as an upgrade from the stock wrx brake setup. The only thing im planning to do to make the experience better is to upgrade my rear OEM lines to stainless braided replacements.

Pads, rotors, lines, and fluid from Stoptech. Stage 1 is the same without rotors.
