Noisy/Squeeky STi strut
I have STi struts on my WRX and the rear drivers side one is starting to squeek loudly, is there any way to fix this? and why does it happen? I don't know how many miles are on the struts, they are 04's that I've had on my car for maybe a month or so now. TIA

it squeaks when it is being compressed. If I push down on the car from the outside it squeaks a little bit. I've already come ot the assumption that it needs to be lubed, I guess my main question is how do I lube it and what do I use?
Jack the car up, one corner at a time. Lift the dust boot up, spray penetrant lube on the rod, esp. near the area where it meets the housing. For longer effect apply a thin coat of marine grease by hand around that area. GL!
?- don't know the tech term. hence, rod!

bump
anyone else know anything about squeaking struts? I've read the threads about the bad 04 struts, but those seemed to be more clunking struts rather than squeaking ones. I tried putting some oil around the top of the housing where the silver part goes into the housing and that didnt do anything so I took off the wheel again, lifted the dirt boot thing and sprayed wd-40 around the base..did nothing. right now I have wd-40 soaking on the strut and I'm going ot leave it on there overnight before I try to put it back on the car. Does anyone else have any info on this situation? Is there some kind of kit to re-lube the strut or repair it?
