Need assistance with Coilovers

I have a 2006 WRX TR with a set of Zeal Comp-R coilovers. The issue I am having is the shop that adjusted the ride height used the wrong tools in tightening them and from that the bottom coupler is now broken. This caused the front left coilover to drop and is making a horrible rubbing noise. Here are my questions:

1. Can I drive the car on these coilovers?
2. Do I have a claim against the shop that did the work?
3. How do I go about getting the coilover rebuilt?

I know that no one can provide me any official legal advice, but any helpful information would be awesome. I am pissed that I paid so much for a part that some dumMY just hacked up.

Are you talking about a broken spring perch/collar?

Legal issues aside, that is your choice to deal with that installation shop.

I would not drive on this damaged coilover, I would suggest getting it fixed ASAP or reinstalling your OEM suspension (also corresponding alighnment) until you can fix it.

The spring perch can be replaced but it will require getting a replacement (probably from ZEAL), removing the coilover, disassemblly/reassembly, reinstall coilover, and an alignment re-check. The actual damper does not need rebuilding to correct this.
I don't know those ZEALS offhand but the spring perch collars are probably the same size/design as all the other japanese made coilovers.

-------------

If you really talking about the lower mount being broken...that might be a different story altogether.

Good Luck

Bummer. I just looked at a pic of the Zeal function X and XS (couldn't find Comp-R's) @ Gruppe-S and I cant see how you adjust height. I can't see any threading so is it a clamp type at then lower spring perch (doubt it) or is the strut cylinder threaded into the lower knuckle portion?

If it was my car and it was the shops fault I'd talk with Zeal and see what needs to be done to make it right. With that info I'd go back to the shop and in a friendly manner tell them what they need to do to make the car right. If they won't work with you handle it the way you feel is best. I'd flip out but that is not the best way to get someone to listen to you. That's why I do everything myself.

The shop said they would work with me and I talked to Endless(Zeal) and ordered the part and the proper wrench to go with it. The shop said they would work with me and I will set up an appointment tomorrow. I am not going put the shops name out there because they do great work. I just hope it can be fixed easily.

Glad to hear they're going to work with you.

After looking at those pic's I'm very curious to hear how you adjust height. Was I looking at the wrong ones? If not please enlighten me.
