The rear rotors have at the center a brake drum setup that are used for the E-Brake. Fronts and rears are very different.

I suppose it's theoretically possible, but it would be more of a pain than just getting the rear 2 pots, plus you'd have to deal with the lack of an e-brake.

What front breaks do you recommend and by who. also what pads to go with them? i am need some that will last a bit. i don't want to be replacing them all the time. i just want better stopping power. any opinions?
What kind of racing do you do? Unless you are going to be getting pretty serious open track time, the stock calipers are fine. Just do braided stainless lines, pads, and fluid and you will be in good shape. Slotted (not drilled) rotors can be helpful too, but not really necessary on a road car. Look nice though.

Slotted help reduce brake fade, drilled just puts weak spots for it to crack if it overheats. I am stil on stock brakes, so I don't have personal experience to share. I do have faith in the opinions of Mike Shields though. Read the Impreza brakes section on www.spdusa.com so I don't have to retype it out. It's what I'd recommend using.
