Exclamation E-brake cable release!

Fellas,

I've got my back up against a wall here. I'm removing my REAR knuckle + wheel bearing + e-brake / ABS + hub assembly so I can get them press-fit with replacements first-thing tomorrow morning.

Before I can remove the whole knuckle, I've got to release the cable from the e-brake mechanism. There seems to be a spring connection buried inside the e-brake mechanism, but I can't access it with my clunky vise-grips or my fat pliers.

Can anybody point me to a crash-course in e-brake assembly?

Thanks very much!

Dave.

I ended up disassembling 1/2 of the parking brake mechanism at 10 pm Sunday night to gain access to release the brake cable. There's a pivot pin in the middle of the brake shoe. The pin has a T-shaped head. THere's a compression spring and a button-shaped locking cap around the pin and these limit the brake shoe excursion. I undid this locking cap and released the pin to access the brake cable. I also had to release the tensioning spring at the bottom of the parking brake connecting the two brake shoes together.

Word of advice - don't try releasing the e-brake cable without a pair of needle-nose vice grips. There's not much space inside the parking brake mechanism and you need a good grip on the spring-loaded cable to manipulate it out of its locking channel.

Dave.
