lowering/rims alignment issues?
okay so this saturday im lowering my 95 legacy sedan 1.25" on kg/mm springs (wish me luck!). i just bought some 17" rims and i'm waiting on tires. so this saturday the springs are getting put on and i was wondering if i desperately need an alignment after that. see, since i have no money for tires, i was going to put the springs on and then put the rims on with the tires in about 3 weeks. i was going to get an alignment then. i was wondering if i should be okay driving around with the springs on with no alignment and then when i get the wheels on i was going to get it aligned (i drive about 200 miles a week). or maybe i should get it aligned when i get the springs on and then i wont need an alignment when i put the wheels on? i'm not sure if i have to get an alignment after i put rims on or should they be fine. i just don't want to ruin the tires that are on my alloys right now as they are basically brand new they're my winter wheels. for reference the tires on there now are 195 65 15 w/15" alloys and the ones i'm putting on are 205 40 17. give me some feedback please!
You should do an alignment after lowering the car and after changing wheels (unless the circumference of both wheels are the same) because in both cases you're changing the geometry of the suspension.
The difference in the those two tire sizes is about 5" in circumference, so there is a big difference there. On another note, the tire size you listed doesn't have much sidewall to it... are you sure the load rating is high enough for the Legacy? It's a pretty heavy car.
Wait to do the alignment after you change both. Depending on how long you wait, you might see some uneven tire wear without the alignment. I waited about a month after lowering my car before I got my alignment and I didn't notice any tire wear at all.

it all depends... I just got my BE(2000 sedan) lowered 3 weeks ago, and had a buddy follow me up to pick up the car. When we drove home, I asked him to watch for the angular look when I was driving. you know wher the butt of the car looks like its trying to catch up to the front, and he couldnt find any hint of that from all different angles. I took the car into les schwab and low and behold, the car needed no allignemnt even with 18's on. BTW I am running 225 40 18's with whiteline springs. Just my side fo the story though
