drum to disc conversion
anyone know if the master cylinder and prop valves are the same on my 97 outback sport as a 02 wrx??? Also has anyone swapped their rear drum brakes to discs??? how hard is this to do?? any extra problems i should expect to run into??i know its "not needed" and all but i want everything to look the same under my 17x8's,
I was going to make a similar post as I would like to do an L conversion to a WRX in the near future. All the L's had drums so I need to know what to expect . I will be doing two conversions the first is to tide me over till I can get a 6 M/T and axles, hubs, rear diff., etc.
I was looking at using WRX rotors in the front and possibly WRX, 2000 Legacy, or 90-94 Turbo legacy rotors in the rear. I haven't decided which one for the rear. I would to use the rotors and calipers that would allow me to use the stock master cylinder if at all possible.

ok, you need the rear hub assembly as a whole ( everything but control arms ) with the brake assy including e-brake cables. It will bolt right up no problem ( I have done a few of these )
NOW
the abs system should work ok, but to verify, make sure your abs ring on the hub has the same number of teeth ( which it should , I check as a precaution ) as the factory one off of your car.
master cyl on a wrx is 1 1/16 the one on yours should be a 15/16 , a bigger cyl should be put in, and you should get a prop valve from the wrx/rs etc ( something w rear disks ) to have the valving right.
The stock master/prop valve will not work quite right if left, and will have adverse effects, I recommend you change them to match the new system.

I did drum to disc conversion (US legacy ones/ endless pads).
First of all, your car needs to be AWD.
My car was FWD and couldn't do disc conversion til I did AWD conversion.
you need brake lines, i didnt realize this til last minuite. haha.
its a good time to invest on stainless steel one. I did.
I'm still using the brake master cylinder that came with the car (94 Impreza L FWD)
I prefer this one because its good ole single stage booster and it works just fine. (my fronts are JDM Legacy B4 RSK brakes with AP pads),
I tried to find propotion valve but my car is nonABS, hard to find.
I dont see any problem using the original one though.
I have 2.5RS proportion valve (ABS) for sale, give me a PM if you are interested.
