clunk when turning left? (hit a deep pothole a month ago)
Hi all,
a few months ago , i hit a big pothole about maybe up to a foot deep with the front driver side tire.....going about 40 mph or so...it was a loud clunk...but i got out, looked at it and all looks fine...but then the last month or so i've noticed that when turning a hard left or making left turns, i hear a clunking sound....any ideas????

How closely have you inspected the suspension and steering gear on the vehicle?
I would start by thoroughly inspecting the following:
*both front balljoints for excessive play
*front swaybar frame mounts for cracks and breaks
*front swaybar endlinks for excessive play
*strut bearings for physical damage to the mounts (cracks in the rubber)
*strut bearings for physical damage to the bearings (dented races and/or excessive play between ***** and race)
*control arm front and rear bushings (cracks and tears in rubber and/or excessive play)
*steering rack for internal damage (best verified with automotive stethoscope probe by turning steering wheel back and forth while vehicle is up on lift)
*wheel bearings for excessive play
While its possible that a strut is blown, but I would think if that was the case that ride quality would be affected more than just by clunking in left turns...

I have also been getting a clunk when turning left. It happens when I make a tight turn at low speeds, or hit the brakes while making a tight left turn. It only happens when turning left. I have not had a chance to climb uder it yet to take a look. I know I have a bad rear strut.
