Break-in period for 04 STi Brembos??
I just picked up an 04 Sti and was wondering if the Brembo brakes have a break-in period??? The car has around 200 miles and the rotors are kinda rusty and its surface itsnt smooth at all...i have seen many other STi's in various parking lots and have looked really closely at their rotors and all of them are very clean and smooth...if it isnt supposedly to be this way, can i take it in for warranty?? You help would be greatly appreciated...

Actually, what your brakes need is bedding in (see section on Prevention), but if the rust on the rotors is more than just a surface discoloration I'd bring it back to the dealer to see if they will replace them.

WW pointed me towards your thread. The rotors on my STi with 3,300 miles on it don't look anything like that. I forgot my digital camera at home or I would go take a comparison pic for you. If you run your hand across the rotor face can you feel the grooves or are they just visual? For having 200 miles on your odo that *looks* really bad.

Take it to the dealer. With only 200 miles, something is seriously wrong with the pads and/or rotors.
Don't settle for them just turning the rotors. They need to find the source of the problem or it will just happen again. I would also insist on having SOA replace the rotors instead of just turning them.

Yes. There is no way you could have caused that much damage to your rotors in 200 miles unless there is something wrong with the car. If your dealer gives you any grief about covering it under warranty, get SOA and the BBB involved.

We all have squealing problems which (for forward motion) I have isolated to the stock pads (my ferodo DS2500's don't squeal). For reverse, I'm thinking it is a rotor design issue that causes that ghastly squeal because I got/get it with both the stock and ferodo pads. But as far as grooves, this is the first I have seen of it. You might want to do a search on nasioc.com or imprezawrxsti.com where the technical forums have more information and greater traffic.
