05 STI Break In Period
Can sometime tell me what you should and should not do when breaking in an 05 STI? I am really not sure if I am supposed to say under a certain rpm or what.
Thanks!

Don't be easy on it. All 4 stroke motors are the same. Gradually increase throttle with each run you do, starting with 1/4 - then 1/2 then 3/4, then full to redline, 3 runs at each stage with driving in between. After 50 miles the engine is broken in anyway. You have to run it hard so the rings will seat properly. Too many people are way too easy on their cars at first. After you've finished this process feel free to change the oil & give 'er.

seriously. engine break in is bull****. they redline the schit out of the engines at the factory. I simply continued the process with 6 miles on the odo. oil change at 152 and 468.

So you don't trust the engineers at Subaru but people here with nothing but their "opinion" and nothing to back it up....I find that a lil funny.
Ok then, Motoman's breakin period is what I followed.

I rebuilt my last motor and used this method. I sold the car with 5000 miles on it and it didn't burn a dop of oil and dyno'd very strong for that type of engine.

Have fun.
I broke mine in aggressively as well. No launches etc but I started by going up to 4K a few times at 80-90% full throttle. Then I did a few 5K runs and then two 6K runs. You can probably still break the engine in properly by staying under 4K BUT you need to floor it to put as much load on the engine as possible.
My car has 1900km or so and runs like a champ and doesn't burn any noticeable amount of oil.
I also did an early oil change at 1000kms. There are apparently additives in the oil that comes from the factory that are used to break in the engine, so I didn't want to change too early.
You definitely want to get that break-in oil out early though. If you break-in aggressively, continually check your oil levels and consistency.

hehe, you would rather listen to the opinions of random people you don't know than the owners manual?
in that case i heard taking it to the tracks is a good way to rack up the first 1000 miles.
