Brake Question
Brake Question
I've noticed that when i take a few tight corners at a good clip the brake pedal has a lot of travel afterwards. After one pump they go back to normal. is this a standard issue or should I be worried. Also, will braided brake lines fix this?

sounds like you may have an air bubble in the brake line somewhere......just try bleeding your brakes to get all the air out, that should take care of it. Stainless lines will only help to make the pedal feel stiffer, more solid....but you will still get that spongy feeling if there is air in the lines.

Could also be pad knockback. Do a search on that to see what I'm talking about. However I have yet to experience that on my Subaru so you might just need some bleeding done. You could also upgrade to a nicer fluid. I use that Valvoline Synthetic stuff and have had good results on track so they should be fine on street.

Thanks everybody. Its been a while, but heres the latest:
I went to the dealer and they said they couldnt reproduce the problem (they seem to say that about every problem). After much convincing they finally bled the brakes. I went straight for the usual corners I take on my way home from work and sure enough the problem still exists.
Knockback: so after reading about pad knockback (thanks for the tip everyone) this definitely seems like the problem. My car is completely stock and I cant imagine that i drive it harder than other people on the forum, maybe a little wheel drift around a few tight corners here and there. But this problem seems scary and dangerous. Is this a common problem with the STI or should I have the dealer replace my wheel bearings? oh i have about 24k miles on the car. i cant imaging what would happen if i went to an autocross or track day.
thanks again
