Just wanted to know if you guys have had the problem that I'm currently experiencing.

I have a 2002 WRX and when I take my car up to 3500 to 4000 rpm, the engine sounds like the it is lashing - and not in a good way. I just took a drive in it to better describe the sound and it sounds like when the revs get high, it's scratching or grinding against metal. Before 3500 rpm, everything sounds fine. This never used to happen in the past but now it has. It has 26,000+ miles on it.

If anyone has any kind of diagnosis, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

 

What has been done to the car? It does sound like you have excessive valvetrain noise. What kind of oil do you use and how often do you change it?

 

Every 3000-3500 miles. And I think the dealer uses Castrol GTX on it.

The car is stock. I've done almost nothing to it.
