hey mike. how many miles did you rack up on your sti so far?

i used oem oil filters for 30k and lately switched to amsoil. amsoil oil filters are one of the best. if you're interested in buying in bulk, i can get them for you.

hey ryan, its almost to 3000 right now. im going to be using regular oil until 9000 miles (castrol gtx) and swtiching to mobile 1 synthetic. then ill be changing every 4k. i heard amsoil has the best oil and it will last a long time but pretty expensive. ill just stick to the cheap route, i might change my mind later though. thanks for the offer! congradulations on the 2000th post =D

Question: I bought a bunch of these for my03 but it seems that the ones that I got are different size and color than the one that's on there. The one that the dealership put on my car is black, while the ones I ordered are white and look a little smaller in diamater? WTF?

You gotta go buy the subaru part numbers. Just select STI oil-filter instead of regular WRX. That's the black one. Their price seems to be a little higher than others though.

So I guess the dealership used the wrong filter when they serviced my car last. Makes you feel really confident in thier abilities.

So I guess the white one was the right one for my car.

What about K&N oil filters? I've been running with those the last few oil changes. One of the perks is that you do not haveto change it out as often as OEM. But am I wasting my money on these? I haven't felt any performance increase, and they go for roughly 15 dollars a piece.

Also, what's up with the crush washers? Is it really neccessary every change? I haven't bought a new one and I haven't had any problems.

The recommended oil filter has changed part numbers 4 times.

from 060 to 080 to 100 to whatever is the latest one that was having problems leaking.

I think we suppose to use STI/black filter for every turbo subaru. Subaru said so about a year ago. So, black one is the right one now. White one is old one and for non-turbo models.

Crush ring is not a big deal. If there is no leak, just keep using it several more time. We do that for other gaskets - don't we? i.e. downpipe gasket.

subaru changed their oil filters like...3 times. they ave 3 different part numbers, and colored changed too. i forget the exact part number but if u search for it im sure u can find it. its ok to use the old ones but they won't be selling them anymore.

there are many different filters that can work for our cars, just make sure it is the right one. the crush washers are neccessary to change because it is design to be broken. After a few thousand miles it will bend and you will need to replace it. If you don't eventually it will start leaking. They are cheap and easy to install so don't skip on it. It won't cause a huge problem but it's just better to do.

Ok guys, I've done a little more research and found that the newer OEM filters model ending 09A are mostly bad. Most of them have a leaking problem. These are teh white ones. The old 100's and 80's are still good, and if you have 100's that would be the best. These are the black ones. I canceled my order with genuineparts and am going to get the Puroloaor Pure One. Does anyone have the black OEM oil filters model 100 they wanna sell me? I just want one, how much are you guys willing to let it go? I went and searched and saw that 1stsubaruparts.com is still selling the 100 BUT they charge like 10 bucks fo shipping so it'll be 15 for a filter.
