Use of Bug and Tar Remover?

Around this time of year in Northern DirtyJersey the bugs are EVERYWHERE and when your out driving you get about 500 of them on your grill and s**t in one ride. Anyone use Bug N' Tar Remover for this problem? I've read on them that they're clear-coat safe, but how safe are they really? Should I even waste my money?

I had no problem removing tar from a friend car with the old bug and tar removal. no noticable fades or divits in clear coat.

I use a Bug/Tar remover on my car and it works fine. Use a proper bug remover sponge that won't scratch and you're set.

I've actually been using it too but I've noticed a slight fade on the front of my hood. VERY UPSETTING!! Kinda scared me actually. I though it might be perminent but maybe not. Any particular brands that anyone uses that may be better? P.S. Thanks for the replys!

I would think that what you use to apply the remover and how much force you use would have a bigger effect than the remover itself, unless you chose something really caustic. I use little dabs of Goo Gone (a citrus-based solvent) and a thin cotton cloth and just the tip of my finger to gently remove bugs, tar and sap -- always wax afterwards, all bug and tar cleaners will strip off your wax.

Ah, maybe that's what I'm seeing as the fade. Just the wax being stripped off. That makes me feel better. Yeah, the one that I use is citrus based too and I use this little-sponge-wrapped-in-some-clothe-netting kinda deal. Works pretty well though. By the way, EagleOne Nano Wax is some good stuff if anyone's looking. Thanks again for the help guys.

Thumbs up

WD 40 also works well. I second a waxing or polishing after removing bugs or debadging using solvents.
