Tranny problems
Hello I am new to this forum and I figured it might be my best choice for help.I have a 1993 Impreza wagon it is a front wheel drive and the tranny is going out,I want to convert to AWD I might have the money here pretty soon ( I got hit by person who ran a red light, hit one car bounced off hit another bounced off then hit me in my little Honda CRX) I know I am going to need an AWD tranny ,fuel tank ,and rear end and support parts. But which tranny would be best ...Or Should I just stay FWD and figure out how to get the tranny I have built stronger than before this is the second tranny I have put in the car and they both lasted about 10,000 miles then the barrings start to go.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
William

The conversion you are considering, while not impossible is very involved and time-consuming, probably not worth it. I'd suggest either repairing the car in its present configuration or looking for a replacement vehicle.

If i repair it in its current configuration is there a specific tranny to look for because I have had 2 replaced in it already and they both started whining at about 10,000 miles. I would like a better tranny than,is there a way I can convert a 6 speed awd tranny to a FWD tranny?

I don't think there are any specific trans upgrades for your car. I suspect there was something wrong with the replacement units you got and the fault for their failure probably lies with the supplier or builder rather than the design of the transmissions themselves. Your car does not make a lot of power or torque and there is no reason you should be going through transmissions like that.
A good low-mileage trans from a junkyard, or a properly rebuilt one, should easily last for a long time, if not the entire life of the car, as long as it is maintained correctly and the car is driven sensibly.
