Strange behavior in my NEW WRX

I'm making a right out of a shopping center and some Civic a-hole speeds up to try and cut me off so i gun it but not past 4.5k in 1st and 2nd and when i get into third the car sorta chokes and sputters suddenly. This scared the heck outta me and so a few miles later off a light I re-enact the incident. Nothing this time but when I try it again a few hours later, it occured again. WTF is going on?? is it my driving? BTW the car has about 650 miles as of this post.

Weaksauce, what year and model please? If it's an 04/05 it's probably an ol/cl issue. If you fllor it even at less than 4500rpm and then imediately get off of it you may be experienceing the ol/cl delay issue. If you serch there are many thread on it. It's probably not fuel cut unless you have a MBC turned up too high.

Is there an MBC in a stock WRX?? Even if there was, I don't think i should f*ck with it. as for ol/cl, when do these things occur? There's massive debate on that topic but no straight answers really...Thanks again Teknic, you're really helpful.

No there is no MBC in a stock wrx. You did not say in your post or your profile what year you had. From what i have read about OL/CL, it occurs when the ecu(cars computer) try to change it's fuel map for the postion of the throttle and how much boost is being seen and there is a delay in the switch over when you floor it and let off quickly at high rpms. I am no expert and you can spend hours reading on OL/CL issues. I would just learn to be more smooth with the throttle and it may not haoppen any more. If it really frustrates you you may have to look into engine managemant to fix the probllem. Thats what i did and many others have done. I would agree with with nic3krnnamja83 and just take it to the dealer to make sure its not something else.

Sounds like a common problem (characteristic) of 04 and up WRXs. During hard acceleration if you let off the throttle abrubtly (or get on it) the car tends to buck violently. According to Subaru this is normal operation. You will learn to change your driving style a bit and it won't happen as often. Good luck.

my new 05 has done this a couple times also, just sorta feels bogged down in 3rd like the boost isn't there. but it only happens when you give some gas then let off like they were saying above. just need to learn how to drive the car that's all, give it some time and you will get the hang of it's character.

your stock ECU is garbage

it was tuned by a computer

have a really good tuner tune your car (flash the stock ecu) on the road and on a dyno, via EcuTek.

this will help get rid of the ol/cl delay issues so present on '04+ ecu's.

tuning will make your car smoother, more powerful, better running. do it regardless of it being stock or not.

you will not regret it
