New to the WRX and the forum. Help.
I am considering buying a used WRX, I'm and I was looking to spend $17,000-$18,000. I will have $2,000 cash down on the car, I am expecting to drive off with a 2002 or 2003. I am a little worried about the financing part, I am hoping it works out alright. I found out my credit score is 687 according to freecreditreport.com, I have a $500 balance on my credit card which has a $1000 limit and a personal loan that I took out in October which has about $300 ish left on it and that is it as far as debt. I am looking for info on weather or not I should be excited and looking forward to getting a WRX or is this far fetched? I want the blunt truth. I make roughly $1300-$1500 per month and I am sure I can afford it, it is just the approval that scares me, the rejection.
I don't plan on heavily modding the car if I do get it just because unlike an SRT-4 it takes more cash for go fast stuff. I plan on a CF hood, maybe taking the rear spoiler off but I may keep it... no STi wings. I will tint the windows but nothing drastic because of Maine St. laws so 20% is illegal and being a fellow that has recently gotten his license I don't want to flirt with getting pulled over. I will pick up a Greddy Type S BOV but does it need a replaced UPP as well? Finally I am looking at either a set of Racing Hart C2's or GT-5's 17x7.5 so that is pretty much it unless you all have any suggestions on some must have mods. Thanks for the help and let me know what you think about my financial situation and the likely hood of me getting the car, Thanks.

It will be hard getting approved because of your income. I'm not saying it can't happen because you have a good credit score but it will be tough.
You might be better off having someone co-sign so get you into the car and when you start making more money re-fi it into just your name.

I don't have a co-signer, that is plain old out of the question. I spoke with the dealer at Patriot Subaru in regards to a used 350z and he said with the $2,000 down I am not far off from it, so for a $17,000 WRX how could it be so hard what do they expect. I have a job history of 4 months and a credit history of 9 months... if they decide to turn me down I will drive off the lot with a brand new SRT-4.

Pay off existing debt and save up the down payment for the car again. Credit reports are favorable when you have a history of showing both on-time payments and the ability to pay off an existing loan. Also, the larger down payment can sometimes sway a lender (or a dealer) to give you a better rate because you are financing less of their money to buy your car. Waiting a little longer to save more cash will also look better because you will have more time at your current job. The lenders look for stability on the job because that's how you're gonna make your monthly payments.

Well the time I actually go for the financing on the WRX I will have 5 months job history and 10 months credit history, my monthly payment on my loan is $13.35 per month, I am not really worried about the debt part considering they allow 30% of your income to go to the car payment and I think I have that set, I heard my credit score puts me in "Tier 2" which pretty much catagorizes me in favor of this loan, I know for sure they will finance me for a new SRT-4 and I will take it gladly if I cannot get into a WRX, the WRX is just a happier formula for me, it's still turbo and respected on the road, I live in Maine so the AWD is nice especially considering I know a guy from Conn. and he says his SRT is pretty much useless in the winter. The insurance will be higher for the WRX than the SRT but my payment on the SRT-4 will be higher obviously considering I would be financing $18,000 vs. $15,000 after my down payment on the WRX. I just really would like to have more practicality in the car and buying used is easier to live with, the depreiation is not that great. I will be very tempted to spend money on mods if I get an SRT-4 because it responds so well to them... making it a money pit. On the other hand the WRX cost alot more to make the numbers an SRT does for the cash so I will stick with a CF hood, tint, Racing Hart GT-5 or C2 17X 7.5, Greddy Type S BOV, some sound goodies, CAI and maybe an Exhaust system down the road and call it good. I just need some approval advice.

here is my advice-
save more money on a downpayment. with your income you really don't want to borrow more than 10k. keep in mind that insurance, gas, daily financial needs all come into play. currently lenders are being more "loose" in loan approvals but your income is a tad low. since your history is so new, it will be difficult finding a lender. if you make 1500 a month, save for another 2-4 months and try to bring your loan amount as close to 10k as possible. keep in mind that most lenders will not go past 60 months on a car that is 2-3 years old.
