HELP!!! Behavior of a new Exedy Stage 2 Clutch
Hey everyone! Just wanted some feedback. I just installed an Exedy Stage 2 Clutch and an ACT Streetlight Flywheel into my 05 STi.
First thing i noticed was this clutch is much more sensitive than the original. It definately has different characteristics but i am starting to get used to it now. Much more pull .....
but that brings me to my question......what are the normal effects of a clutch of this nature. I know it is a racing clutch so its not gonna feel like stock, but how should one of these clutches feel? Maybe there is a breakin period for the clutch? Anybody installed this before? Please give me some feedback it would be greatly appreciated.
And also if you guys have any tips for me on how to drive or get used to this clutch that would be greatly appreciated too!!!!!
Thanks
Eli

I don't know what you mean by stage 2. Is that a full face disk? Typically, 500 miles is the break in time.
Also, new clutches tend to act funky in the begining. Then you just have to get used to it. If it is the right part for you car and it was installed properly, I would not worry about it too much. Just take some time to get used to it.
However, I don't know if what you have/got is the actual 6MT parts. If they are not, you MIGHT have to modify your slave cylinder pin in order to insure proper engage/disengage points. You can see that by observing teh movement of the clutch fork. Make sure that when fully disengaged, the fork is not under tention. And when fully engaged, that it does not bottom out on the case. I have see that happen. Last but not least, check the clutch hydrolic system to make sure it is all hanky panky.

Thanks Imprezer!!! I appreciate the feedback. Yes it is the 6MT and it is made for my car. Everything seems to be ok but i definately have to give it more gas when getting started into a gear than the stock. I guess thats just because its a performance clutch. So the fork engagement, is there an adjustment for that?
Im going to gruppe-s on friday to have mike take a look at it to make sure everything is ok. I am going to have him dyno my car and see what kind of numbers this clutch added. Thanks again man!!!

Hi Eli,
What do you haveto rev it up to when you are letting out the clutch starting from a stop? I have the stage 1 Exedy (organic sport clutch) with the Streetlite fly and I have killed my car so many times in the past...you definately haveto give it more gas with a lighter flywheel, as the engine is more subject and touchy to throttle input (and lack of). I would imagine that a stage 2 clutch would only magnify that, with the grippiness, clamping force, and less ability to feather.

What up smitty!! Hows starbucks been doing lately with all the rain?
Anyways, i drop it at around 2500 rpm's and it seems to be ok. Just really touchy!! Still trying to get used to it. So you got a stage 1 exedy? Yeah this one has some major pull. I am starting to get a lot more comfortable with it now. So you have to get the rpm's up pretty high too? Overall i really like the clutch though. Since the day i got it, it seems to be breaking in pretty good now. A lot more forgiving than when i first got it installed!
How is reverse for you? Same way, really sensitive? Mine is. How long did it take for yours to "break in"?

Ha I haven't been to Starbuck's in about 3 weeks...this rain is keepin me indoors.
I don't haveto get my RPM's upto 2500, but I definately haveto pay more attention and rev alittle higher compared to stock. Like I said, I've killed my car soo many times. It's kind of embarrassing.
What do you mean is my reverse sensitive? I don't what you're talking about. My break in period was 500 miles, as recommended by Gruppe-S. They say the parts last alot longer if you do so. I was extremely easy on them during this time. Did you install the parts yourself?

thanks for the feedback man. The reverse thing i think is just in my head, my bad. I had a company (Michael and Co) out in san jose install it. Gruppe-s was booked up solid, and my clutch was out. Im having mike take a look at it on friday at gruppe-s to make sure everything is ok. then a dyno!!!! find out what the clutch did. ok so 500 miles or so. It seems now to be almost broken in if not already. Feels a little less sensitive and ready to pull.
So not in three weeks huh. This dam rain is just poundin us out here. Its insane.

You can easily tell the diffrence between stage 1 and 2.
You will always gonna have that funny clutch engagement,
Since you don't have a full clutch disk (Puck).
Try not to ride the clutch as much as possible, for a puck disk is kinda harshed
on the flywheel.
Other than that the clutch is very good.
