Red face squeaking sound

Hi folks, got another rookie question,

when i turn on my AC there is a loud squeaking sound......it almost appears to happen when i turn with AC on .....it sounds like belts or something?

Could be dusty belts, or old belts. Is it only when the A/C is on? Or anytime the fans are on?

Most likely the belt that drives the A/C compressor. The clutch in the compressor engages when you turn the A/C on, this puts an almost instant load and drag on the belt, sometimes causing it to slip. That is likely the squealing sound that you hear. Check the tension on the belt. If you don't know how tight it's supposed to be, take it in for service. They should also be able to determine if the drive belt itself needs replacement. How many miles on the vehicle (belt)?

I have the same thing. Sounds like a bird chirping under the hood. It does it consistantly every 2 minutes or so when the A/C is running. No other noises though when A/C is off. Car has 35,000 miles. 02 WRX.

it's the AC belt. my '02 WRX does it when i turn on the AC....it's a brief chirping sound that goes away after a second or two.

have them check the belt tension on your next service maintenance.

I had the same problem too and I took it to the dealer. They said that I needed a new AC compressor.... Luckily the warrenty covered it.

I have a '00rs and I get a very "Barry White" sound compared to these read. I have 58k on mine. I rarely get this anymore, but it is when I start the a/c.
