SPT parts void warranties?

Will SPT parts void warranties? I was just thinking that since they are official Subaru parts maybe they wouldn't. Also, lets just say I got a new part for the engine that would void warranty, would that void the warranty for just the engine or what it replaced or would it void the entire warranty for the car? Just askin'. Thanks for your help.

I've talked to a few guys from the Subaru dealership in my area and it depends on what you are getting. If they put the parts on then in will not void the warranty. If you have someone else or yourself put something on the car then they are not responsible if something goes wrong with that particular part.

SPT and STi parts are NOT covered by your new car warranty. However, many dealers are reasonable about things and will not use them as grounds for denial of warranty claims on other parts, particularly if they do the install.

No, that would be greedy service departments. Also, dealers do have higher overhead than independent shops, which is part of why their rates are higher.

I had a little chat with the service manager at the dealership i bought my car at and he told me that he doesnt really care if i got intake or a catback. They only things they really care about are things that screw with the turbo, ie. Turbo back exhaust, BOV, swapping the turbo for a bigger one . Just keep all your stock parts and throw them back on if anything goes wrong. (watch out for paint on bolts and what not, it was put there to check if you have screwed around with it)

I find that much more disturbing. Intakes are okay but exhaust isn't?

Actually it's illegal for dealer personnel to touch any non-factory pipes which should have cats in them. But, catbacks are okay- the only way for a catback to be illegal is by being too loud. It never voids a warranty. On the other hand, intakes are not only illegal, but they also are potentially much more harmful to the motor by causing dangerous lean conditions and/or rich conditions which result in carbon fouling of various parts and poor operation. To me an intake is potentially much more detrimental to a WRX than a catback.
