Warranty void or not to void that is the question.
I am looking in to getting a turbo back and reflash soon however i am told that this voids the Warranty. Any one know what you can do with out voiding the Warranty? How do you guys feel about voiding the Warranty?

cat back exhausts, some other minor bolt ons....yes a downpipe will void and so will a reflash. Its not about the parts you put on that void...its when the car breaks down were those part(s) the cause. I think most people in here dont really care that much for the warrenty because most of our cars have been modded.

The only thing that won't void any part of your warranty is a catback. Anything else can be used as grounds for denial of certain parts of it. However, a turboback with a catalytic converter and a properly tuned reflash won't cause any additional problems on the car. Chances are anything other than catastrophic engine failure will be covered even with the exhaust.

Cosmetic mods won't void your warranty -- though chances are that your dealer will try to insist that anything you mod will.
I had a buddy take his S2000 back to the dealership due to an intake defect. His engine was stock, and all he had was a bodykit and Volk TE37's. The dealers refused to work on his car citing that he voided his warranty with those mods. He came back 3 days later with the stock wheels, and the dealers still tried to insist that the kit voided warranty. They were too blind to notice that it was Honda's own dealer option kit though, and when he pointed it out they got all pissed. They still worked on the car, but they biatched him around pretty badly.
So it's your call: mod or face some dickwad dealer's wrath

what is a turbo back or downpipe going to void a warranty on? Obviously your new aftermarket cat won't be covered, but what else could it possibly void besides maybe the 02 sensor?
throw on an exhaust, get the accessport, and you are fine. If my engine were to actually 'blow' for whatever reason, it would be worth just taking the exhaust off before you went in there!

Lets say you hear a knocking sound, that you cant figure out. If you have a turboback on it, there going to blame that and claim warranty void. With a reflash it could be basically anything electrical that they could claim no longer is warrantied because the reflash somehow affected it.
Also, do they have a computer system where they would mark your car as voided warranty? Lets say I have a turboback and take my car in for service, are they going to write it up in a system so that next year if I go to a different dealer, that the new dealer would know I had a turboback even if I had removed it?

It is up to the individual dealer and/or Subaru the company. Technically, puting wheels on your car can void your warranty. However, laws state that if something breaks down and you have something 'aftermarket' on your car, they have to prove that this aftermarket part is the cause of the problem. Some dealers are real jerks about everything to the point where you do anything at all, they won't cover your car under warranty. If you have a good relation with them, they might let some things slide. As I said, it is up to the individual dealer.
I think that Cobb states that their relash cannot be seen by SOA OBD2 diag. computers. Call them and ask. Warranty is really hard to deal with though. Just be calm and collected till They F**K you.
