Mitsubishi voiding warranties on AutoXed EVOs
In huge contrast to Subaru's including 1-year's SCCA membership with their WRXs (not sure if they still do or not), check out what Mitsubishi is doing with their EVOs (article from Autoextremist.com):
It seems that Mitsubishi's aggressive marketing of its "rally-inspired" Lancer EVO high-performance street car is designed to move the iron from their showrooms only - and is not meant to be perceived as tacit approval by Mitsubishi for customers to actually take them up on it. Internet chat rooms are buzzing with stories of Mitsubishi voiding motor and drivetrain warranties (including transmissions) on Lancer EVOs that have been found to have competed in any sort of high-performance SCCA-type autocross sanctioned event or any other timed event, for that matter. Mitsubishi has allegedly set up an automatic web search that looks for registration and results information for any Mitsubishi, and then captures the race results information, matches it to vehicle purchase and service records, and then places the car on "warranty restriction". If the Lancer EVO, according to Mitsubishi, is said to embody everything a performance enthusiast looks for in a car, then Mitsubishi should clarify their position and make it clear to everyone who buys one that they don't really mean it - at least when it comes to backing their high-performance cars with a high-performance warranty

If SOA were being obnoxious, they could track everyone who cashed in their SCCA membership and make trouble over warranty issues. I haven't heard of this happening though so its probably just my paranoia kicking in again.
Its pretty easy to find entry lists via Google or whatever anyway if the dealer so chooses.
Within reason I agree with this. For example, if my wheel bearings, discs, shocks etc, pack in earlier than normal, I would not hold Subaru responsible. I would also expect higher than average wear on the drivetrain. However, given that my car is stock, I wouldn't expect the drivetrain to take a dump with less than 60,000 miles on it - and so far, it hasn't.

Mitsu is voioding the entire car as a result of finding names on the web.
Subaru is not. Subaru looks at things in a case-by-case basis. If you bring it in for warranty work, they can look at it and tell if it's abuse. Mitsu is actively looking on the web for results, matching up the info, and clicking the 'void' button.

I was getting ready to fill out the SCCA membership card that came with my '04 rex and noticed the warranty disclaimer you need to sign at the bottom and said forget it. My feeling is if I sign up and never participate in an SCCA event they now have my signature saying that I essentially waive my warranty. I'm not going to give them any reason to void my waranty.
