I don't know, I think you might be wrong on this one.
I have taken my car to the dealership 3 times.
1st time: Green Valley Subaru(FORD) in Fairfield
Issues: Broken A/C ****, clutch problems.
A/C **** taken care of after 3rd attempt, and clutch denied.
Reason: Crappy Ford Dealership.
2nd Time: Jenson Motor Center in Napa
Issues: Clutch problems (which was not fixed by G.V.)
Brought it in, they provided me with a loaner car and had my car ready the same day.
3rd Time: Walnut Creek/Diablo Subaru in Walnut Creek
Issues: Worn out steering wheel, Worn out E-Brake Handle, Broken Clip on Armrest Extension, Broken Floor Mat Clip, Brakes/Rotor Shimmy.
They verified all problems, ordered me a brand new steering wheel, ebrake handle, floor mat clip, and a whole armrest extension (not just the clip). They took care of my brakes the same day, I had to come back for the other misc stuff cuz it was all special order parts. When I went back they provided me a rental for the whole day for this 1 hour job...simply cuz I had to be at work and it was inconvenient for me to wait around for an hour.
So I am 2 for 3 on the dealership experiences...Am I happy with that, Yes...Very happy...taking my car to green valley is like taking it to stevens creek...I just did not ahve a choice at that time, if I went to WC or Jenson the first time it would ahve been 3 for 3 on good experiences...
Maybe you need to try another dealership..

I even hate to get involved with this conversation but here goes. You keep bringing up the warranty coverage. Are you talking about the factory warranty or some kind of extended warranty? There is a huge difference between the two. Even then there are usaully different levels of policies. Obviously the higher the price the more it would cover. Is it even a Subaru policy? When I worked at Ford the same issues came up. Some dealers sell policys other than the factory ones and they usually cover a lot less. I've worked at dealerships for years and really find it hard to believe in all the things your Mother had repaired. Somewhere along the lines she paid for it.

Now, as far as all that extra free stuff - I wouldn't expect that, but I do expect my car to be fixed per the manuf. warranty, which Subaru so far has done very poorly with.

I had taken my 02 WRX into the dealership 3 or 4 times complaining of clutch slipping in first gear when my foot was off the pedal. The dealer rep wrote it down as "clutch slippage under heavy(I never said 'heavy') acceleration." When my tranny broke at 15MPH in 2nd they used these statements as a way to deny me ANY warranty coverage. With no proof they accused me of being a "street racer" and "consistantly abusing" my car.
I am now in process of installing a STi 6-speed tranny in order to not have this type of tranny problem again.
I would suggest that you get a copy of EVERYTHING they write on your account, and that you make sure they get it right. Be careful what you allow them to write about you, it can be used against you. The dealer I went through seemed, to me, to make an effort to get out of the warranty.

I too had my fair share of tranny problems, and with the dealer too. I brought my car into the dealer complaining of the tranny being hard to get into first gear when completely at a stop. The dealer put some kind of hypo gear oil in it and then the car would grind really hard into 4th when ever the car was at 4000 rpms or more. I took it back (and by this time 3rd was doing to, common shaft!) and the dealer said that they would have to open the tranny to see what was going on. Well the dealer said that after talking to SOA they were not going to do any repairs because I had an intake and a exhaust. On the way home I called SOA and raised some serious f@#king hell. I told them that I was very aware of the Magnum-Moss Act which states that a person can not be denied warrany work if the part that went bad was not directly caused by the aftermarket part(s) I told SOA that there is now way in hell that a intake and exhaust caused a syncro problem. So to make a long storie short, my dealer said that they were replacing the guts in the tranny under "good-will ". Now I know that is a bunch of bullsh!t, I am a Service Manager and I know that good-wills are done when I machine is out of warranty, and I have 10,000 miles to go at the time. So I only hope that there are no other promblems with the car, I'm trying to sell it!

No warranty issues for this long time subaru owner
I currently own a '99 Legacy GT and an '04 WRX. No problems with the '04 so far, but some very minor warranties with the '99. Under warranty I had the sunroof replaced, a seat heater replaced, and a leather seat cover replaced with no questions asked no hassel no problem. I am in Canada and don't have to deal with SOA, that might be the difference.

sorry to hijack... Matt, what was wrong with your seat? i had mine literally break and rock back very far on acceleration. my dealer told me it would take several days to get the parts in... i had to actually argue with teh service manager to get a rental car for the time my car was not-operable to the time the parts came in and could be fixed.

SOA is a subsidary of GM. GM doesn't care about customer service.
Subaru of Japan should be ashamed of SOA and lack of custmer service.
The Subaru independent dealer network and their service deparments are even worse. Mr. Goodwrench is a bone head and his boss, the service manager, is an idiot.
Seek out the small Subaru independent mechanic.
