Purchasing Woes
Hey guys, my first real post here, I was referred by a friend, and anyways, great forum. Quick backroung, I am a business major at Cal Poly SLO, and am 20 years of age. Im working at a very steady job, making 20-25 an hour, and have been saving quite a bit. I have been reading quite a lot in the last few days. Here is my current car buying situation:
1) 2005 Tundra Limited 4wd
3) 2005 Wrx STI
I just now started looking to subaru's, most of my research over the last year has been focused on the tundra, and let me tell you, its one solid truck. My current ride is a 98 ranger 2.5L on 32s. so needless to say, its pretty darn slow. But thats ok, I have been driving for 5 years now, no tickets, infractions etc, and I feel that I am ready for an upgrade. I also drive my dads 99 C5 vette quite a bit, so I am quite used to power and very "smart" with it if you will. Tundra was on my list just because I loved having a truck, and wanted one with more power, and 4wd (for the mountains) The problem is, I also enjoy offroaing very much, but I might be able to give that up for a sti. I guess I just need some help choosing between the truck and the sti, both will be roughly the same price, but there is a big apples and oranges comparison here, almost not a fair question.
Im just going to throw out some questions on the sti that I havent been able to figure out thus far from my reading, so any responses would be greatly appreciated
1) Does the sti rear seat fold down or not? I need to fit my snowboard in it (fat bob 168). I read taht it does not, you need to undo 2 bolts, is this true? Also, does that mean that the whole seat will fold down, or just half so I can have a 3rd person back there?
2) How the heck does awd work? Espacially the DCCD? 70/30 to 50/50? Im confused how it distributes power (used to a 4wd transfer case, 50/50 all the time). Is it a limited slip of some sort that is constantly working to transfer power? If so, wouldnt that be a lot of wear and tear?
Thats if for now, any answers would be much appreciated, Im going to go read some more now...thanks for reading

1. No. I know the WRX has a center am rest pass thru, not sure about the STi.
2. The WRX is 50/50 all the time. The STi has the DCCD transmission which has a few settings. I believe it is full lock (50/50 all the time), auto, which distributes the power dynamically up to I think 60/40 and then user configurable meaning you can set it as you wish (up to 60/40). By the way, that's 60/40, rear/front.

Sounds like to need to buy the STI with a ski box, and then buy a beater truck that you can trash off road. The roof racks come off very easy. It takes about 10 minutes to put them on.
Or buy a GT Wagon, (I know your only 20) and have lots of room.

Update: Went back to the suby dealer, and the seat does not come off (without unbolting) nor does the center fold down. Please tell me more about these ski racks, might be the perfect compromise, how much do they run?
