Oil Filter and Rear Dif. Question

I changed my oil and rear dif oil today...

When I took the drain plug out in the dif., look what I found...
This doesn't look too healthy... lol. Should I worry that something real bad is going to happen back there pretty soon?

Also, I bought some oil filters online at subaruparts.com and noticed that the filter I put on (15208 AA09A) wasn't what was there (15208 AA090). What's the difference between these besides the noticable size difference?

Thanks

Here's an important notice about those filters:

Please be advised that oil filter, part number 15208AA09A, may potentially exhibit a small amount of seepage that is noticed during the installation process.

Although seepage is slight, we are requesting that all inventory of this part number be removed from stock immediately.....

If you can hold off and wait for the 100's to come back I would wait.

As far as what came out of your rear diff, is it metal? Can't tell, pictures very grainy. It doesn't look good though.
