I have an 04 and it is a PITA to do an oil change you have to take the whole plastic engine compartment protector off to get to the filter. I have started to use the Fram X2 oil filter which lasts 7000 miles and I put in Mobile1 Oil. that ways I dont have to change it so often.

I leave it on and work around it. I've never removed mine for oil changes. Don't remove it because it serves a purpose - keeps engine components cleaner, directs airflow underneath car, and diverts water away from accessories belt during winter time. I also use a Fumoto Oil Drain valve and mark a index line across the bottom of the filter to speed oil changes.

On the 04's, you need to remove the cover on the bottom to change the oil. You can drain the oil, but you need to remove it to change the filter. I keep mine on, because like winglesswonder said, it keeps the motor cleaner and protects things on the motor. Yes its a pita, but it only takes a couple of minutes to remove.

Thanks for the correction. I didn't realize that the 04 might have a different splash shield.

Maybe you can cut it down so that it does not interfere with the oil filter, as to make your oil changes a little easier.
