Inspection checklist for used Impreza?
Ok, I need some tips for checking over the '98 Impreza RS I'm buying next week before I hand over my cash...
Here's my checklist so far:
Call Iowa DMV (Where I live) and New York DMV(where I'm buying), find out who I pay tax to, and who I get temp tags from.
Carfax the VIN to make sure the title is clean.
Title search the VIN to make sure it actually belongs to the guy that's selling it.
Make sure he has all maint records.
<insert flying out to New York here>
Check all rubber parts.
Drive it, make sure it's aligned correctly.
Once warmed up, open it up. Make sure 1-2 shift is smooth, and that she runs hard all the way to redline.
Take to <fastest possible speed> and make sure she's appropriately smooth at this speed.
Check for condensation on oil filler cap and dipstick.
??????
What else should I be checking? Any common problems to watch out for?

Nothing specific, just maybe some advise.
Since you're flying out to NY, try not to let emotion take over and ignore your instinct. Be prepared to walk away from the deal. Are you flying to NY for the sole purpose of buying the car?

Good luck getting your car.
I finally found my 98 RS coupe after 3 months of searching. Oddly enough, I got it in Des Moines, IA....not too far from you.
Mine is a real gem. 23000 miles w/ all the service records and oil change receipts. Everything was even done at the Suby dealership.
I'm loving my RS. I was afraid it might dissapoint my expectations since I've been wanting one ever since 1999, but it's exceeded them. It's a great car.
