Ok ive been pretty frustrated lately with my car. I have an 03 completely stock from the engine perspective wrx. Ive been getting a P0301 for almost a year now. I took it to subaru many times to no avail. Those retards no nothing. Anyways my car will throw that code on a weekly basis but will turn off after the normal 4 cycles which leads me to believe that its not happening all the time. Sometimes while driving the cel would blink at the 1 mhz rate which i know is not good. ive changed the injectors, coil pack and plugs and it got to the point where the cel wouldnt blink every so often while driving.
Today in fact i was driving home from work when the cel started blinking at 1 mhz but i felt no change in performance at all then the light just turned off. about a mile later the light turned back on but at a constant and is still on now.
Ive checked for vacuum leaks and have found none that i can think of and i am startign to suspect the ECM. Is there any kind of checks i can do at home before i have to take it back to subaru? thanx for the help

the new AP manual doesnt have trouble codes listed and I dont have my service manual cd with me, but isnt that a cyl. 1 misfire? What gas are you putting in?
Im located in Bakersfield CA the closest dealer i can find is in lancaster where the car was originally sold. As far as teh code yes that is a cyl 1 misfire and its not the gas cause ive tried every brand and every grade possible. And teh newest news on teh car is now i have a loud whine coming from the front drivetrain now which kind of sounds liek its coming from the front ring and pinion gear. Tues is the day i take it in on warranty

There is nothing wrong with your car...
I have this same problem in my 02. In the beginning I took it to the dealer every time it happened and they had no clue...it's a glitch. I've read several other posts about 02 owners with the same problem. I guess the 03's have the same issue. Anyway, 143K miles on my car stage 2,...runs fine. Every once and a while I get the CEL,...sometimes it blinks as if the car is going to explode, other times it's solid. In either case, there's no pinging, no decrease in performance, and it usually resets itself that same day or the next. It's a phantom CEL that Subaru has failed to acknowledge. (my theory anyway)
