hi, im considering buying a 05 STi. but the only thing is that the car is "damaged".... it has a right front lower control arm that is twisted and the left front strut and axle are bent. is it worth 12k? i was wondering if anyone can tell me how much will it be to fix this or is it easy enough that i can do it myself... please help!

If there's some damage there might be more that you can't see. Still, 12k is cheap. If nothing else you could drop teh drive train into a different car and part out what you don't want for a hefty sum.

Car Info: No car right now....sob.
Sounds like a new project car. Perhaps try to haggle it down a little, and swap STi parts into an old junker. Ultimate sleeper.

It would take about $15k on top of that to repair it for it to become not worth it. Get a good idea of what it needs and go from there. If it needs any work on a frame machine, it is usually a couple hours setup plus however long it takes from there at about $80 an hour- some more some less. Like I said though, you have a lot of room for repair costs before it becomes not worth it. Is the body damaged anywhere? Can you do your own work replacing the parts? That will make a difference also. I would love to find an STI like that, I do all my own work and would have it fixed by the weekend

Well, haggle him down maybe to $10k if you can unless he can provide an accurate and complete estimate from a reputable body shop that will let you know what's wrong and how much is needed to fix it. At $10k, you can swap the drivetrain in to another car like an RS or WRX, and take anything else you want from the car, then sell the drivetrain of the car you swapped in to and get some moneys back
the damage will cost you about $10g at thw most... when i crashed my car i need 2 rims a new rear right axcel and a control arm and under carage stuff it cost me about 8g so i think you will be fine
hmmmm....
IMHO, if he's selling it that cheap, there's more wrong with it than he's letting on. Is he not filing a claim with his insurance? Did his insurance total the car out, and he bought it back from them? If he bought it from his insurance company, it will have a salvage title, and you will NEVER be able to sell the car for anywhere near it's "value". Besides the fact that if it needs frame work etc... consider the amount of time and hassle that will be involved in properly repairing the car. Consider that if it's not fixed PERFECTLY it will drive like $#%*, and consider that once you fix all that stuff, you could drive the car for 3 months and have it drop a clutch or blow a turbo because the previous owner was probably a MORON for wrecking it in the first place.
Considering all these things very carefully, I would say that if you have $10,000 of completely disposable income, you might want to consider it. Alternatively, you could take the $12,000 he's asking for to a casino, go to a roulette table, bet it all on red, and if you win, you'll have almost enough to buy an unwrecked used STi! IMO, the 50/50 shot you have at the casino is better odds than the odds that you'll end up ahead on this deal
