exhaust leak

i have a magnaflow muffler welded on to replace the stock muffler. at where it's welded it started to develop a small leak and water will drip out from the leak(??) when the engine is not warmed up. it sounds ugly too. i put some J-B weld on it and it only lasted a months. it still sticks but the expanding and contracting from the heat cracked it open. my question is does anyone know if rtv silicone adhesive/sealant will do the trick? i have some and is thinking about just put it on. or is re-welding over the leak the only way to fix it? if that's the case i'll have to go rent a portable welder since i dont own one.
